The SoCal Piggies had their first meeting in Newport Beach on March 8th at 7:30 PM. In attendance were 5 Piggies (Grig, Titus, Daniel, Malachi and Greg) and 2 guests from Caltech (Diane Trout and Alex Kraemer).
Grig presented "Agile Testing with Python Test Frameworks" -- a talk he'll give at PyCon05. You can see the slides here.
Titus presented Dapper/June, a commenting/annotation/certification framework he's been working on. He'll probably send a message to the group with more details.
Some other topics discussed informally:
Web app. frameworks (Quixote, Subway, Webware, <gasp>Ruby on Rails</gasp>)
- GUI frameworks (wxPython, pyGTK, pyQT)
- contributing to the Python community (write unit tests for modules in standard library, comment on documentation via Dapper/June?)
- why doesn't Python get the same amazing press/buzz that Ruby does (no good answer)
The next meeting will most likely be held at the same location. Date/time TBA.
Next topics (tentative):
- Meta-classes tutorial (Daniel)
- pyGTK tutorial or Web app. tutorial (Greg)
- others?
